Hotel Patrick Henry, early 1940s |
Description |
A black and white photograph of Hotel Patrick Henry on the corner of Jefferson Street and Bullitt Avenue in Roanoke, Virginia, taken in the early 1940s. The building has ten stories with a stone balustrade around the roof. On the back side of the building's roof is a neon sign advertising the hotel. The neon sign had a gold border and red lettering. The top floor has arched window detailing with some double windows and some single. The front corner windows on the top floor have elaborate cornice stonework. Between the top floor and the mezzanine floor there are six stories with very plain windows. The stone balustrade is repeated at the first floor level. The mezzanine level is accented with decorative stone work featuring medallions. The windows on the second floor have stone carved architraves. There are stone pillars at the street level. Protruding out from the second floor is a sun room with awnings. This photograph is taken from Elmwood Park across the street and shows cars parked on the street. There is a Gulf Oil Company gas station across Jefferson Street. There is an American flag flying from a flag pole on the roof of the hotel. |
