A black and white photograph of the Milk Barn at the Hugh H. Trout farm in Hollins, Virginia. Trout was educated as a physician at Johns Hopkins and and was the founder of Jefferson Hospital on Franklin Road in Roanoke, Virginia, where he practiced medicine. He married a member the Cocke family which operated Hollins College just across the highway from his farm. He was known as a progressive farmer keen on employing modern farming practices. At least a part of the milk produced at Trout's farm was consumed by the patients at Jefferson Hospital. |
