Towers Shopping Center, circa 1961 |
Description |
A black and white photograph of Towers Shopping Center, located on Colonial Avenue and Brandon Avenue, in Roanoke, Virginia, taken circa 1961. Towers Shopping Center is a two-level strip mall and featured a small interior mall with escalators to connect the two levels. It opened on October 12, 1961, just a few months after Crossroads Mall opened. The mall was named for the WDBJ television and radio towers located on the site and visible in the photograph. The photograph shows what is known as the lower level, which faces Brandon Avenue. Some of the businesses there included High's Ice Cream, A & P Grocers, Woolworth's, and People's Drug. |
