Red Cross Volunteers, World War I |
Description |
In the photograph is a row of nine Red Cross volunteer women during World War I. Harriet Smith Eades is posing on the right. Each woman is wearing a head cap with a veil in the back. A red cross is on the center of each head cap. The dresses the women are wearing are long with an A-line skirt with a large rectangular pocket. The dresses are belted in with a white sash around the waist. Underneath the wide collar is the red cross emblem. The dresses have long sleeves. The women's shoes are either white or black but all are wearing high heels. In the row each woman is holding to the waist of the woman in front of her. Their hair is pulled back away from their faces. No one is wearing jewelry or decorations. There are several trees in the background. The image is a black and white print. |
