Title |
Charles Wade lubricates Class E2a Locomotive 578. |
Description |
Lubricator Charles Wade works on Class E2a (4-6-2) locomotive 578 in the lubritorium in Bluefield, West Virginia. This modern facility was equipped with hoses which pumped various lubricants into fittings on the locomotives using compressed air. The system was so efficient that routine lubrication of such locomotives could be finished in about 15 minutes. Once popular on the N&W, only two of these light passenger engines survived to work the once-a-day Clinch Valley District train between Bluefield and Norton, Virginia. |
