Melrose Athletic Club Baseball Team |
Description |
Photograph of the Melrose Athletic Club baseball team. The typewritten caption on the reverse of the image reads as follows: "Melrose's baseball team of 1905 is pictured with coach, score keeper and what appears to be their mascot (standing before player second from left)". Handwritten notes at the bottom margin of the photograph are illegible. A similar photograph entered into the museum's collection as Object ID # 1983.42.38 describes this as the 1901-1902 team. The photograph was probably taken at the front door of one of the Roanoke Cycle Co. shops which were located at 103 Campbell Avenue S.W. and 107 First Street S.W. in the City of Roanoke, Virginia. According to Raymond Barnes' "A History of the City of Roanoke" each ward was represented by a baseball team. |
