A black and white photograph of Coach Bob McLellan taping the ankles of Bob McConnell prior to the Roanoke Midget League All Star team's victories in the Santa Claus Bowl competition in Lakeland, Florida on December 28, 1951. The running of McConnell was instrumental to the victories according to the Roanoke Times. In an interview with the History Museum of Western Virginia on September 13, 2013 his team mate, John Hurt, Jr., described him as a hard runner who "carried the freight". |
