Abingdon Branch Class M Locomotive 429 changing direction on a "Wye" in West Jefferson. A "wye" was the easiest way to turn a locomotive. The locomotive would head up oneleg of the "Y", the switch at the spur would be thrown and the locomotive would back down the other leg of the "Y" and out onto the main track, but headed in the oposite direciton. |
