1 glass bottle, wrapped in yellow paper, for "Hite's Pain Cure: The Sovereign Remedy, for rheumatism, neuralgia, paralysis....[etc.]" Paper wrapper is sealed with red wax at top and bottom. Paper wrapper bears the image of an eagle, with a ribbon in its beak, holding several arrows and a branch. On the wrapper are printed the various conditions the remedy should be applied to, along with the information: "Prepared by S. P. Hite, Moffatt's Creek, Virginia. Price 50 cts." The S.P. Hite Company was started in 1871 at Moffatt's Creek, Augusta County. In 1887 the business was moved to Staunton, Va. The business moved in 1905 to 320 Loudoun Ave., NW, Roanoke, Va. It was incorporated October 20, 1905, with S.P. Hite as president; W.E. Price as vice-president and general manager; B.J. Fishburn as treasurer. The company carried fifteen articles in its line, of which Hite's Pain Cure (also known as Hite's Household Remedy) was the leader. At one time about 82 articles were included in their line. |
