Description |
These thick clam shell beads (Venus mercenaria) were found in the summer of 1929 at the Saponi Indian mound near Montvale, Virginia. It is believed that the beads were used as a form of currency. Coastal Indians traded the beads for hides. "Rawrenoke" was the word used by Indian tribes to mean "white beads." |
