The object is a "Old-Time Home Made Martha Washington Candies" Box. The side of the box has a black and white photograph of Mount Vernon with the text Mount Vernon written directly below. The top of the box has a picture of Martha Washington, and to the right of her picture is a picture of George Washington. Both pictures are in color. The top of the box also states, "Elie Sheetz" in between addresses "121 N. Queen St. Lancaster, PA." and "Baltimore, MD. 214 N. Liberty St.". The box also states, "FACTORIES: NEWARK N.J., ROANOKE, VA.". In smaller writing, the box states that it received the American patent in 1906 and the Canadian patent in 1910. The box has many scratches and the corners are torn. The object was given to the donor by Virginia K. Mason of Narrows, Va. |
