Wooten Pot |
Description |
There are two openings on opposite sides of the top. There was also a handle across the top. An inscription on the side reads "Made by W.T. Wooten, Zenobry, Virginia." William Turner Wooten made this salt-glazed stoneware crock/field jug for Dr. White in Mendota, Virginia. James Alexander Wooten started Wooten Pottery in 1880 on his farm near Zenobia along the North Fork of the Holston River. The pots were all utiliarian stoneware pieces without decoration, typically of a deep brown glaze. Wooten Pottery closed in 1918. |
