Military jacket: Red Cross Welfare Service, WWII. Thick twill jacket with light blue button detail at collar. Patch at shoulder of left proper arm of a red cross, with 'American Red Cross Military Welfare Service' written around the cross in a circle. At the left proper cuff are four metallic silver-blue horizontal stripes on a light gray background, stitched hastily with a light pink/beige thread. Four plastic buttons molded to read 'American Red Cross' run down the center of the jacket, with two pockets at the waist and two pockets at the breast. Tag in the lower right of rayon lining reads 'Smith-Gray New York Established 1845' Along with the donation of the jacket were photocopies of Natalie Morse Quinney's original letter enlisting her for overseas service upon the successful completion of her medical exam, as well as photocopied portrait of Miss Quinney in service. She holds out a cup to a woman and an officer with his head turned away from the photograph. |
