Newspaper clipping, "Story of Rorer Iron Co. Railroad Project Recalled." In 1883, several Roanoke citizens, to include Ferdinand Rorer, Elijah McClanahan, Samuel Coit, John Sykes, and George Gray, petitioned to grant a charter to form Rorer Iron Co. This company was to be built in Gale, an African American settlement near Pinkard Court, and named after Joseph Gale. The article discusses the railroad company and its path through throughout Roanoke. |
