Gilmer asking Addison Maupin at the University of Virginia to take this young man (Mr. Fischer) in as a boarder, with Gilmer agreeing to pay his board by furnishing certain quantities of fresh food and a bond from Mr. F. closing with the statement: "Take him, you will make money by it, and confer a favour on a youth of 18, who is destined to rise to the highest eminence in our country".
