    Graphite notes written on both sides of an envelope to Mrs. George Ellis, kindness of George Ellis. One of the notes, written on the verso of the envelope, contains minimal information on the deed of land between James Madison and Michael Miller in 1837. There is also a note on Col. Elijah McClanahan (assumed, as the name is in abbreviations) and Col. James McClanahan (again assumed).

  6. 'Nestle Brook' Dates to 1830s; One of Roanoke's Oldest Homes - May 20 1973

    Newspaper clipping discussing the house and tract of land at the northwest corner of Salem Turnpike and 24th Street-acquired by William McClanahan in 1799. The land passed to his son, Col. Elijah McClanahan, who then sold it in 1825. Divided into five tracts by the next owner, the article follows only one of the tracts-a house was built on it in 1835-1840, and nicknamed 'the Yates House,' 'Melrose Inn,' and the 'Horton Place.'
