Acceptance of the Comprehensive Plan for the City of Roanoke - Image #1 is a black and white photograph of members of the City Council of the City of Roanoke, Virginia, together with the city Planning and Zoning Commissioners and others at a meeting held on May 20, 1929 when the Comprehensive City Plan prepared by John Nolen was accepted. The plan dealt with future land use in the City of Roanoke. Maps of the City of Roanoke are displayed in the background. Image #2 being the reverse of the photograph sets forth a somewhat confusing description of the seating arrangement of those present. Mayor Charles D. Fox sits directly under the clock at the head of the table. City Manager W.P. Hunter sits at the near left corner of the table.

This photo is part of a series taken by Davis, commissioned by Edward Stone of Stone Printing to illustrate the poor condition of Roanokke streets.The engine on the tracks in the background bears the name of Vaughn Construction Co., Roanoke, Va. The large brick building is the Melrose Distilling Company,Rectifiers and Bottlers. The building on the hill advertises "Use Caspers' sweet mash whiskey". The car is George Davis's Buick coupe. This photograph is identical to the photograph entered in the History Museum Photograph Collection as Object ID 1990.69.1076.
