9. Groundhog Club Meeting, 1950 - A black and white photograph of the Groundhog Club meeting on Groundhog Day, February 2, 1950, at the American Legion Auditorium in Roanoke, Virginia. The Groundhog Club was started in 1917 by Robert H. Angell and his crowd. The club was originally composed only of native born from Franklin County residing in the city. The committee "lowed" others less fortunate to join. The 1918 annual meeting was cancelled because of WW I. By 1927, the club had 5,000 members, and women wanted to be admitted, which was unanimously voted down. In 1928, the 20th annual meeting had 6,000 members attending.

10. Roanoke Apple Show, 1911 - A black and white photograph of a display at the Roanoke Apple Show held in the Randoph Market in Roanoke, Virginia in 1911. In the book "Proceedings, Volume 3, The South's Physical Recovery" by Southern Commercial Congress, 1911, Virginia's apple lands are compared to those in the United States Northwest. These quotes are taken from pages 976 and 977: "In the Virginia valleys and on the good rich Piedmont slopes apple lands may be obtained at a very reasonable price which will produce and are producing apples that cannot be surpassed by the Hood river section the Yakima locality or any other section of the Northwest. Our apple growers this year this month and last month have been selling their product at the same identical prices as those paid for the famous Wenatchee Hood river and Yakima fruit $1.50 to $3 a box. At a recent Roanoke apple show fancy Virginia apples brought $1.50 to $3 per box."
