Burrus Hall at Virginia Polytechnic Institute - Virginia Polytechnic Institute is a state college of agriculture, engineering and business established in 1872 as a land-grant college. Its founding marked the beginning of scientific agricultural and industrial instruction in Virginia. It is located 38 miles southwest of Roanoke, Virginia. In 1896 the name changed from Virginia Agricultural & Mechanical College and Polytechnical Institute and shortened to Virginia Polytechnic Institute. In 1944 Virginia Tech was affiliated with Radford College, a women's division of the college, until 1964 when it became coed. Some of the nation's top engineers are graduated from this school each year. Burrus Hall was named after the first alumnus president and is the main administration building. Its auditorium seats over 3,000 and houses several department in the College of Agriculture. The original building was completed in 1936, the west wing and rear were added in 1968, and the east wing was completed in 1970.

"Snow Battle of the Freshman Class" - "Snow Battle of the Freshman Class", photographed by H. M. Trenor - class of 1908 (V.P.I.). The caption on the reverse explains that the "Annual Snow Battle" took place each year during the winter months with the other classes looking on. The image is similar to an image in the 1905 VPI "Bugle", page 205, with descriptions on pages 68 and 102.

Valentine's Day Cards from 1880 - 1920 - 1880-1920

These 28 Valentine's Day cards were made in different years, as far back as the 1880's to the 1920's. One variety has Victorian- lace borders and floral designs, with a European influence. The group of cards in the second picture feature chubby- faced children and cute punch-lines on brightly colored paper.
