   George Jefferson Hundley was born near Mobile, Alabama in 1838. On his mother's side he was the great-great-grandson of Peter Field Jefferson, who was an uncle of President Thomas Jefferson. Orphaned at an early age he was reared by relatives in Amelia County, Virginia. He studied law in Lexington, Virginia, and was licensed to practice in 1860.    George S. Bernard, a lawyer from Petersburg, Virginia, who had served in the Civil War, collected reminiscences of veterans after the war. Some were published in the book "War Talks of Confederate Veterans." Other material was collected for a planned second volume that was not published at the time.
