   Color postcard with three photographs of the Embassy Motor lodge at Melrose Avenue. 8. Mick-or-Mack Store on Melrose Avenue, Roanoke, Virginia - A black and white photograph of the Mick-or-Mack grocery store at 4215 Melrose Avenue N.W., Roanoke, Virginia. A large sign containing a clock and a directional arrow graces the parking lot. A "We Give Green Stamps" sign stands nearby. A sign on the other side of Melrose Avenue directs motorists into the First National Exchange Bank entrance. Mick-or-Mack opened their first store at 26 Church Ave SE in Roanoke in March 1927. Other stores opened in Salem and Vinton, as well as elsewhere in Roanoke during 1928 and 1929. Shortly thereafter the chain began to expand throughout the western half of Virginia and into West Virginia.
