3. Elks Club - Picture of the three story Elks Club at Tazwell Avenue and Jefferson Street in Roanoke, Virginia between 1920 - 1925. The building was erected in 1906. Awnings cover the front and side windows. The ground floor area has been enclosed. In front of the building, to the right, there is a bird bath with a swan or heron statue on it. There is an automobile parked in front of the building. There is a stone wall in front of the building with a wrought iron gate. A cupola is on top of the building.

4. Elks Club - Picture of the three story Elks Club at Tazwell Avenue and Jefferson Street in Roanoke, Virginia between 1920 - 1925. The building was erected in 1906. "BPOE" (Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks) sign on the building identifying it as the Elks Club. There is a flagpole attached to the top of the building. Awnings cover the front windows. There is a metal statue of an elk on the left front lawn. There are 3 Ford car models parked in front of the building. There is a stone wall in front of the building with a wrought iron gate. A cupola is on top of the building. The Elks Club began as a drinking and gaming society in New York City in 1867 that was made up mostly of actors and entertainers bent on having fun and avoiding the New York excise tax on alcohol. They called themselves the "Jolly Corks" after a clever trick using corks on the uninitiated to win free drinks. As membership grew the vision for the club changed and in 1868 the name was changed to the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks with a new spirit and directions to help Veterans, Scouting, Scholarships and more.

5. Elks Club - Picture of the three story Elks Club at Tazwell Avenue and Jefferson Street in Roanoke, Virginia just before being demolished. There was an addition to the building on the left side of the building. "BPOE" (Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks) sign on the building identifying it as the Elks Club. There is a late 1960's or early 1970's Dodge Rambler in the photo.The original stone wall was replaced by a brick wall. There is a sign posted - Demolition by D.H. Griffin, Wrecking Co., Greensboro, N.C.
