1840's Blue Silk Dress |
Description |
Blue and teal changeable silk bodice and skirt with a tan glazed cotton lining. The bodice (a) has a pleated front that gathers into a point at the waist. It has bell pagoda sleeves trimmed with black lace at the cap and cuff. The neckline is a soft V shape. The back has been let out with a wide strip of plum colored silk which closes with hook and eye closures. The skirt (b) is full and bell shaped and includes a pocket and a purple braided ribbon (not horse hair, however) at the hem. It has been altered at the waist with an elastic but the needle scarring and folds from the old cartridge pleated waist can still be seen. |
