1. 1840's Blue Silk Dress - Blue and teal changeable silk bodice and skirt with a tan glazed cotton lining. The bodice (a) has a pleated front that gathers into a point at the waist. It has bell pagoda sleeves trimmed with black lace at the cap and cuff. The neckline is a soft V shape. The back has been let out with a wide strip of plum colored silk which closes with hook and eye closures. The skirt (b) is full and bell shaped and includes a pocket and a purple braided ribbon (not horse hair, however) at the hem. It has been altered at the waist with an elastic but the needle scarring and folds from the old cartridge pleated waist can still be seen.

2. 1840s bronze moire dress with velvet trim - Gold silk moire and satin striped one-piece dress with black velvet trim pleats at the sleeves and three velvet flowers appliqued at the front waist. The bodice has short sleeves, sloping shoulders, boned seams and a flat, natural waistline. The skirt is full and bell shaped with an opening down the front. The register notes that is is dated about 1840 and worn by Mrs. Baxter of Philadelphia, mother of Helen Baxter Nicholas of Roanoke.

3. 1895 Black and turquoise silk two piece dinner gown - Dinner gown set with a black and turquoise silk blouse (a) and black silk satin skirt (b). The blouse is boned and has vertical stripes, a cream lace and sheer puffy chest inlay, a zig zag bustline at the top of the bodice overlay, and black velvet trim. There is a tag on the inside waist ribbon that reads "Mrs. A. S. Jackson, 1054 W. Fayette St. Balto., MD." A pleated velvet ribbon has come separate but appears to be a collar. The skirt (b) has a black velvet ribbon bow applique in front that extends down around the bottom. It has red lining and a red waist ribbon. The register notes that it belonged to Mrs. S.D. Ferguson, dated 1895.

4. 1916 navy wool suit with a white vest and slats - A suit from spring 1916, including a navy wool skirt (a) with a navy wool jacket (b), a white and navy striped vest (c), and white spats (d-e). It also has a navy velvet and straw bonnet (1964.35.4.2; located with accessories). The skirt (a) has black silk ribbons running horizontally on a front and back panel, snap and hook-and-eye closures at the back, and a matching belt with black silk ribbon and big round button on back. The navy wool jacket (b) is trimmed with a black silk ribbon and has white silk lining. It has large spherical black buttons and loops at the chest and cuffs. The white vest (c) is made of wool and has white silk lining. It has black silk ribbon stripes across the chest on the front panel and running through a pleated ruffle at the hem. The collar is high and rounded and closes with a round ornate brass button in front. It has an attached belt with a big brass buckle. The cotton white spats (d-e) have white (possibly shell) buttons up the sides and silver buckled straps on bottom.

5. 1920s black crepe long-sleeve dress - Black silk crepe long-sleeved dress (a) with a black silk sheer scarf (b). The dress features a simple scoop neck collar with seam details on the back, a draped and curve-cut flap on one side of the chest, a drop-waist with gathering at the side and side flaps on the skirt cut into curved and pointed shapes. The cuffs also have tendrils and the scarf has a scalloped seam.

6. 1920s Green velvet and chiffon evening kimono coat - Green velvet and chiffon kimono evening coat with gold stitched flowers patterned around the bottom half and on the wide sleeve panels. The open front has a chiffon ruffle trim and crosses to close with a velvet covered button. The floral pattern is features a velvet rose applique trimmed in gold on a green chiffon ground. It is lined in a peach colored silk (a silk ribbon that ties it closed inside has come loose.) The register notes that belonged to Lida M. Funkhouser, Paris, ca. 1926-1928.

7. 1920s silk and red embroidered shirt - White silk and red thread embroidered open-front collared cardigan blouse. The red embroidery is in a bold stripe-square pattern throughout with an ornate border on the collar, sleeve, bottom and front pocket hems. No tags.

8. 1930s black georgette nightgown - Black georgette nightgown with champagne alencon lace around the top and at the skirt hem. Although there is no tag in the gown, a note in the accession register marks this as from Paris, 1934. It is cut on the bias and has wide shoulder straps that extend down into a lower back.

9. 1930s cream butterfly hem Art Deco gown - Long flowy tank-top strapped cream silk gown. Straps that tie at the collar, bust and hips in front, as well as one at the waist center in back, have Art Deco styled emrboidery stripes, as do the shoulders straps. The seamwork at the waist swoops up in a point at the bust. The skirt has two layers, the top being fuller and sliky with a stiffened trim that creates a butterfly hem. It zips up the left proper side. A tag in the outside skirt hem reads, "The Blum Store, Philadelphia" and a tag in the inside skirt hem reads, "Spectator Sports Inc."

10. 1930s Red Wine Silk Gown - Red wine silk satin gown with long sleeves, a cowl neck, pointed train, and matching buttons up the cuffs and back. Cut on the bias, the silhouette drapes sleekly against the body with no waist seam in front but a large V seam in back running from the shoulders down to the waist. It goes with a matching red wine velvet belted coat (1964.35.10.1).

11. 1940s Silk Satin Floral Gown - Hand-sewn black and floral printed silk satin gown (1964.35.9.1a). It has a flowing trumpeted skirt with a short over-skirt attatched at the side seams in front, short balloon dolman sleeves that taper, shoulder pads, a V neck, and a matching belt (1964.35.9.1b). The dress closes at the right proper side and in front at the hip with a run of snap closures. It is paired with a black satin pillbox hat trimmed with white and light pink flowers (1964.35.9.2).

12. 1940s white floral silk dress and jacket with matching hat - White silk floral dress (a) and jacket (b) with a matching pillbox hat (1967.36.13.2), ca. 1940. Little blue, red and green flowers cover all pieces. The dress has micro sleeves and the top is made of sheer box pleats. It has a sheer ruffle around the waist and a thick blue velvet ribbon pleated at the neckline. The skirt is cut on the bias. The jacket has puffy, cartridge pleated shoulders, a simple swooping V neckline extending down into two covered buttons at the waist which has a slight flare. A tag inside the jacket on the side reads "Nan Duskin, Philadelphia." The hat has two stripe-embroidered and velvet bows. A tag in the hat reads "George F. Horne, Inc., Roanoke, Va."

13. 1950s pink taffeta bow gown - Bright pink silk taffeta gown with a column of bows down the length of the front, a sweetheart neckline, and short sleeves that are gathered into puffy bow shapes. The waistline is at the natural position and has pleats in front. The skirt is has a smooth A frame in front and is full in back gathered at the waist. A tag at the inside hem of skirt reads "Lucile Paray, made in France, Paris."

14. 1950s three piece suit dress - Chartreuse and burgundy-brown raw silk three piece suit with a full length skirt (a), green tank top (b), brown short sleeve blouse, (c) and belt (d). The solid green trumpeted skirt snaps up the side and has a repeated pointed seam motif at the waist band in front and back. The green tank top has a V neck in back and front and ties in front. The solid brown open-front blouse has folded short sleeves and decorative seam details at the nape of the neck. The belt is green with brown at one end. Notes in the accession register state that this set, dated 1931, was made out of evening pajamas and was worn all over Europe.

15. Account and memento book - 1852

    A small handmade account book in light blue paper folded horizontally in half, held together with white cotton string at the spine. The book is also a memento book containing four separate locks of hair. They all appear to be from different individuals as they are different textures, colors, and lengths. 17. Black Dress with Red and White Lace Embellishments - Black dress featuring a lace embellishment that runs along the length of the front, from the neckline, to where the skirt begins. The skirt does not begin where the waist is, it seems to begin about a quarter of the way down from the waist between the waist and the knee. The dress also has a flap that is tied around the waist with straps that are attached to the flap. The sleeves are ruffled, and three quarter length. At the end of there sleeves there is a red ruffle embellishment along the circumference of the sleeve.

The chest has square shaped floral lace and striped pin tucked inserts with lace trim and the long sleeves have flowers and swirls embroidered into the netting. The back has a silk peplum and closes with hooks and eyes.

20. Black Mourning Bodice - Late 19th century black bodice. The bodice features embellishments throughout the garment, the fabric is adorned with small scroll motifs which are present throughout the piece.. The shoulders are adorned with padding and lace embellishments as well as beading, they are in a gigot style. The neck line and wrists are lined with lace. there is a large series of flounces that adorn the decolletage, like a cravat, which cascades down thee bust.
