    Letter headed "Leigh August 10, 1837" from Lucy Minor to her sister, Emma Breckinridge, at Catawba near Fincastle. News of friends and family; asks about the Watts family, especially Lizzie; sends love to the children including James [a new baby?]. Lucy mentions she has a pet hummingbird that would sit on her hand and drink sugar water from a spoon. A portion of this letter is written over at ninety degrees.

    Letter headed "Catawba November 8th 1837" from Emma Breckinridge to her sister, Lucy, at Mr. Persico's Seminary in Richmond, Virginia. Reports on her children, including baby James; tells of a visit at Oaklands with the Watts family (Lizzie Watts is now at the Persico Seminary with Lucy); of sermons by Mr. Wharton and Mr. Cocke; and of Mr. Price who has come to teach at Mr. Brown's Academy.

  6. Letter - October 9, 1845

    Letter headed "Smithfield Oct 9th 1845, Thursday Night" from Alice Watts to Mary Ann Breckinridge, Botetourt County, Virginia, and tells of plans for the upcoming wedding of Jane Preston to George Gilmer, a show that is coming to Fincastle and her father gave her only one dollar to see it and a lot of family news. The letter is difficult to read because the ink has bled through the paper and obscures the writing on the other side.
