    Part of a plate block of stamps. There are four stamps and the border. The border is on the right and bottom of the four stamps. The plate block number on the bottom right of the border, is 26181. The stamps depict Abraham Lincoln, who is facing to the proper left. Next to his chin is the last name: LINCOLN. On the bottom right corner of the stamps is 4 [cent symbol], and below that: U.S. POSTAGE. The stamps are purple.

    George Jefferson Hundley was born near Mobile, Alabama in 1838. On his mother's side he was the great-great-grandson of Peter Field Jefferson, who was an uncle of President Thomas Jefferson. Orphaned at an early age he was reared by relatives in Amelia County, Virginia. He studied law in Lexington, Virginia, and was licensed to practice in 1860.
