1. Bedouins Football Team - Image #1 is a photograph of the members of the 1930 Bedouins football team made up of former high school and college stars. The team was organized to play in a December 6, 1930, Christmas charity game against the Roanoke College squad. The game which was played to a 6 - 6 tie before a crowd of 1500 spectators was halted by dusk. It was played at Maher Field and featured unrestricted substitution. Image #2 reproduces the back of the photo and lists the names of those photographed. Team members Claude Moorman and Jere Bunting were mentioned in news reports of the game but are not pictured. "Chicago", the water boy, is included in the photograph.

   This letter is overwritten, headed "Jan 26 1826" from an unknown friend (postmark is Lynchburg) of Emma W. Gilmer at Liberty, Bedford [Virginia] responding to a letter from Emma telling "there will be five brides here on Tuesday night", wedding plans, parties, dressing the brides, and implores "Emma and Queen" to come to Lynchburg to visit her soon. The writer names seven songs that she can now sing.

   Letter dated March 18, 1831 from Margaret Anthony, Lynchburg, to Mrs. Cary Breckinridge (Emma W. Gilmer married November 25, 1830), Fincastle, Botetourt County, Virginia postmarked March 21, 1831. News of friends getting married -- Sally Cabell and Henry Ward on March 17, 1831 in Lynchburg. Also is inviting Mrs. Breckinridge to an Episcopal Church convention.

10. Ponce de Leon Hotel - The old Ponce de Leon Hotel in Roanoke, Virginia was located on Campbell Avenue and Second Street, SW. This was the site of the former "Trout House" owned by a Mr. Smith and demolished in 1889. The Ponce de Leon was constructed on this site and opened Thanksgiving Day of 1890. This structure was destroyed by fire on December 28, 1929.
