Canvasbound book of carbon copy letters of O. E. Obenshain - Farming, Mineral, and Town Properties, Buchanan, Virginia. These copies of letters (500 pages in total) of O. E. Obenshain, an enterpreneur, relate to the purchase of land and property of the 'Boom'lands of Roanoke, Buchanan, Eagle Rock, and other areas around Roanoke during the recession of the 1890s. Letters are in blue and purple typewriter ink on tissue thin semi-transparent paper. Spine reads in black ink: LETTERS 1897 It seems that Obenshain hoped to capitalize on the cheap land, by purchasing, building, and then reselling. Letters contain faint signatures, and are to people throughout Virginia concerning matters of land, materials, payment, and other business related matters. |
